ANKLE SPRAIN 

 

1. Introduction

A sprained ankle, also known as an ankle sprain, twisted ankle, rolled ankle, ankle injury or ankle ligament injury, is a common medical condition where one or more of the ligaments of the ankle is torn or partially torn. The anterior talofibular ligament is one of the most commonly involved ligaments. Sprains to the lateral aspect of the ankle account for 85% of ankle sprains.

 

 

 

2. Classification

Ankle sprains are classified as grade 1, 2, and 3.

 A 3rd degree ankle sprain.

3. Diagnosis

It is important to either rule out a fracture clinically or radiologically.
A sudden movement or twist often when the foot rolls in can overstretch the supporting ligaments, causing ligament tears and bleeding around the joint. This is known as a sprain. This is a common injury, it always occurs in activities that require running, jumping and change of direction (such as basketball and netball). Some people are particularly prone to recurring ankle sprains.

4. Treatment

4.1 TCM measures

4.1.1 Acupuncture

One of the effective treatment for ankle sprain is acupuncture. For severe internal bleeding (severe swelling and bruise), TCM acupuncture on the collateral vessel blood letting technique (Chinese: 刺络放血) shall come first.

4.1.2 Bioresonance Therapy

4.1.3 Manipulative Therapy

4.1.5 Qigong Therapy

4.1.6 Immobilize

5. Conservative measures
